eBay Flipping: How I Built a Six-Figure Reselling Business

Flipping items on eBay has been my primary income source for years. In 2025, I hit six-figure revenue, and I'm scaling further in 2026. Here's exactly how I do it and how you can start.

What Is eBay Flipping?

eBay flipping means buying items below market value and reselling them on eBay at a profit. The key categories where I find the best margins:

  • Precious metals — Gold and silver jewelry priced below melt value. This is my bread and butter.
  • Collectibles — Pokemon cards, LEGO sets, vintage items
  • Electronics — Refurbished tools, discontinued items
  • Liquidation — Bulk lots from retailers and Amazon returns

The Gold & Silver Arbitrage Strategy

This is the strategy that generates the most consistent profit. Here's why it works:

  • Melt value is your floor — A 14K gold necklace weighing 10 grams has a guaranteed minimum value based on the gold spot price. If gold is $5,146/oz, that 14K piece is worth about $964 in pure gold content.
  • Sellers misprice constantly — Many sellers don't know how to calculate precious metal values. They price gold jewelry like costume jewelry.
  • Zero risk if you buy below melt — Even if you can't resell it retail, you can always sell to a refiner at melt value.

I use automated tools to scan eBay listings in real time and alert me when gold or silver items are listed below their melt value. Check our eBay Deals page to see live examples of below-melt precious metals deals.

How to Calculate Precious Metals Value

Karat Purity Value Per Gram (approx.)
24K 99.9% $165/g
18K 75.0% $124/g
14K 58.3% $96/g
10K 41.7% $69/g

Prices based on ~$5,146/oz gold spot. Check current prices on our deals page.

Getting Started with eBay Flipping

  1. Pick one niche — Don't try to flip everything. Start with one category you know.
  2. Study sold listings — eBay's "Sold" filter shows you exactly what items sell for. This is your market research.
  3. Start with low-risk items — Buy items under $20 to learn the process before scaling up.
  4. Invest in tools — A jewelry scale ($20), gold testing kit ($30), and a good phone camera will pay for themselves on the first deal.
  5. Track everything — Know your cost basis, fees (eBay takes ~13%), shipping costs, and true profit per item.

Scale Up with Technology

The difference between doing $1K/month and $100K/month is automation and deal flow. I use custom-built tools that monitor thousands of new eBay listings per hour and alert me to underpriced items within minutes of listing. Speed is everything in arbitrage — the best deals sell in minutes.
